BIOGRAPHY
Trent Gudmundsen sees no dividing line between his life as an artist and any other aspect of his life. "The things I value deep in my heart always end up showing themselves in my paintings, such as the idea that beauty exists in simple tasks, and that man can coexist with nature in a truly beautiful way." Many of Gudmundsen's paintings have a decidedly small-town or rural feel to them, and conjure up thoughts of yesteryear, and rightly so since the artist is enthralled by old-fashioned self-sufficiency and traditional farm skills. "Inspiration comes at me from a lot of angles, but I find that I'm drawn to subjects that remind me of the rural area where I was raised (which, as I recall, was pretty close to the perfect place to grow up)." Although Trent also often paints interior scenes in addition to his other subjects, even those more urban-like scenes still have a certain timeless feeling, as though the subject could just as easily have been seen 50 or 100 years ago as yesterday. "I enjoy painting people in every-day situations, whether that be on the farm or in a corner shop or restaurant, and feel that there's a certain timelessness in capturing quiet moments of real life."
Gudmundsen is represented by fine art galleries in California (Carmel, Santa Barbara, & Palm Desert), Arizona (Scottsdale), Montana (Whitefish), and Utah (Park City & Bountiful). He and his wife, Lorajean, and their three children currently live in Logan, Utah where they raise a few chickens, and are currently saving up to purchase a small farm.
"Trent's signature pieces... marry
what he feels
with the realism in what he sees." --Rob
Stern, Samarah Fine Art.
"...Although a young painter, his confident brush stroke is that of a
much older and experienced painter."
--Steve Brennen, S.R. Brennen Galleries.
"Bistro interiors, soulful portraiture and exquisite landscapes are
painted quickly in order for Gudmundsen to capture
the essence of his subject while maintaining the quality of light and
composition."
